Is Stress Endangering Your Health?
By Albert Comey, D.C., D.A.C.N.B.
Stress is all around us and comes in many different forms. There is chemical
stress, which is the type that comes from the food we eat, whether or not we
smoke or use tobacco, and the toxins we expose ourselves to throughout our daily
activities. When we think of stress it is often the emotional stress from a busy
day, family or marital issues, the economy and job situation, or perhaps the
death of a friend or family member, just to name a few. There is also physical
stress, which is from repetitive activities of daily living, heavy lifting,
accidents, injuries, and allowing the other forms of stress to be expressed
physically.
Stress may manifest itself as fatigue, headaches, neck and back pain, tightness
of muscles, difficulty sleeping, weight gain, and the list goes on. Burying your
head in the sand and hoping it will just go away is not the solution.
It is important to first recognize and identify what types of stress you
currently have if you want to eliminate them. In some cases it may be difficult
to eliminate, but you may be able to prepare your body to deal with the
consequences of a high stress lifestyle.
Seeing a provider who is well versed in assisting you in creating a stress-free
lifestyle is recommended. Chiropractors are trained in the chemical, mental, and
physical stressors that cause a variety of health related conditions in the
body. On a daily basis we help identify those stressors and come up with a plan
to help reduce and eliminate the cause and effect of stress.
By discussing the person’s diet and toxin exposure, their activities of daily
living and assessing their spine, muscles, and ligaments, a customized plan of
action can be implemented.
Patients often seek chiropractic care as a result of long term effects of
stress. With the right combination of diet and supplements, positive mental
attitude and stress coping techniques, along with care for the human frame, we
can bring back the energy and decrease the harmful effects of stress.
Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up and feel rested? Wouldn’t it be a relief to not
have to rely on coffee or energy drinks to get through the day? Wouldn’t it be
great to have muscles that weren’t always tight and sore? Wouldn’t it be
wonderful to be able to lose weight and fit into that favorite outfit that has
been hanging in your closet for the last year or two?
Deal with your stress now and don’t let it endanger your health any longer!
