Pregnancy
Skin Care Tips
By Gail Erickson
We all want the “Pregnancy Glow” while
we’re pregnant. Unfortunately, some of us realize that our glow is
an excess of oil that is causing pesky breakouts. Some women also
develop chloasma (pregnancy mask) or pruritus (itchiness) or hives
during pregnancy. Hormonal changes in the body lead to these
issues. Here are some easy skin care tips to help minimize skin
care problems during pregnancy.
-
Cleanse the
skin with a gentle facial cleanser twice a day, everyday.
-
Treat
breakouts with products that contain glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy
acid or witch hazel. Be sure to check with your Dermatologist if
you are on a prescription for your skin since some prescription
products are not recommended during pregnancy.
-
Wear
sunscreen everyday. You may become more photosensitive during
pregnancy and wearing an SPF may help minimize the appearance of
chloasma.
-
Drink at
least 8-8oz glasses of water a day to cleanse the system and keep
your skin clear and supple.
-
Pamper
yourself. Getting a facial at least once a trimester will relax
your muscles and mind while helping your skin look and feel its
best. Plus after pregnancy, time for yourself will be more
difficult to find.
Remember,
we are always our own worst critic. No matter how awful you feel
or think you look, pregnancy is a special time in your life. Smile
for your photos! Chances are, years later you will look back and
realize how beautiful you are during this wonderful time!
