Stress - The
silent killer
Ancient
Secret Treats Holiday Stress
by: Mary Riggin, AP, Dac
Recent investigations have disclosed the identity of the long
sought serial killer who strikes all year long but saves most of
his devastation to exploit those with year end, holiday season
depression.
Stress has been linked to all the leading causes of death
including heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents,
cirrhosis, and suicide. An estimated 1 million people are absent
on an average workday because of stress related complaints. The
emotional swings caused by stress can often seem worse during the
holidays. It is an increase in life's demands that cause these
symptoms and the emotional stress of the holiday season that can
aggravate them. It is not unusual for family members to come down
with some kind of illness during this time of year.
Throughout history all races have had a celebration at the time of
the New Year. There have been many traditions, but it has always
been a time for a fresh start with resolutions; a time to return
to balance. The world begins new again each year, with all things
in balance.
There is a secret hidden in the previous paragraph and that secret
just may be the solution to the problem of stress. It is also the
secret to health and happiness and the foundation of acupuncture
and Oriental medicine. Like many things in life, this secret is
simple and right there in front of us; the secret is balance.
Balance is what all the forces of nature strive for. As we come to
the end of the year it has the effect of completing a cycle. This
completion tends to focus attention on areas of our lives that are
unbalanced. This time of year can be especially stressful to
anyone who already suffers with some kind of imbalance or chronic
illness. Stress will aggravate areas of weakness; that's why
hospital visits and illnesses tend to increase this time of year.
So, how can we avoid this potential hazard?
Frequently, various types of drugs are recommended to deal with
symptom aggravations. But because of recent reports regarding the
dangerous side effects of various drug therapies, people are
looking to safer alternatives. They are finding their answers in
the ancient practice of Oriental medicine.
Thousands of years ago, ancient physicians used Oriental Medicine;
the practice of acupuncture or acupressure, tui na massage,
dietary therapy and herbal medicine to handle the adverse effects
of stress. This ancient practice is still used today and millions
worldwide are benefiting. Modern research has determined that at
least part of what makes this medicine works so well is a release
of endorphins and an increase of blood and oxygen flow to areas of
weakness. This promotes vital endocrine and circulation balance
and results in improved health and well being. If you feel out of
balance or are suffering with an illness or injury, you owe it to
yourself to see if this ancient practice is right for you; you
have nothing to loose and it
could change your life.
