For 40 Years Loraine's Academy

Making the world more "beautiful," one persona at a time ...

Sitting in the lobby of Loraine’s Academy you hear the “buzz. “  A client walks in for a scheduled student massage; a cosmetology graduate visits; a future student arrives to enroll in a specialty program.  It’s always the same; “I love this place”  “It’s so well established...it’s their 40th anniversary you know...”  “Looks great, they really keep it up-to-date!”  “My hairdresser recommended them.”

At this school “beauty” runs much more than skin deep.  Loraine’s is a private school specializing in vocational training in cosmetology and related arts and sciences.   Owned by two sisters, Nancy Fordham and Kathryn Alvarez, the highly acclaimed school attracts students from neighboring communities and around the world.  Most are referrals from friends, wellness centers, doctors, the internet, hairdressers, top salons, high schools, and the media.

As baby boomers are maturing, all salon and massage services are booming.  Loraine’s offers career training not only in hair, skin and nails, but also Therapeutic Massage.  The massage program features small-personalized classes, highly qualified instructors including three physicians, a supervised student massage clinic, and many extra “modalities” provided at no additional charge.  Potential students are encouraged to enroll at Loraine’s to learn to provide stress and pain relief, by friends, successful graduates, chiropractors, and owners of massage therapy clinics.  Students are often offered positions even before they graduate.

Over the years, Loraine’s has graduated over 5000 hairstylists, nail technicians, skin care experts, and massage therapists.  Loraine’s graduates have gone on to become stylists, medical estheticians, nail technicians, platform artists, published authors, state board members, salon owners, school owners, makeup artists to the stars, and wellness specialists.

By caring for the whole person and “seeking to prove, through service, integrity, fair play, and a passion for learning, that success in business, as in life, comes from the triumph of principles, “ Loraine’s Academy does much more than provide their students with career skills.  They are offering education “beyond the status quo”...making the world more “beautiful,” one person at a time.
