Now Is The Time To Book Your Child's Summer Camp
By May, popular camps will be booked
solid. Here's a four-part plan for getting this project under
control.
(MONEY Magazine) - Letting your children sit on the couch all
summer watching reruns of Hannah Montana might be cost-effective,
but it's not exactly enriching. With 1,000’s of day and sleep away
camps in the Tampa Bay area, there's almost certainly one that
will suit your child's taste--and your budget. Don't wait: By May,
popular camps will be booked solid.
Follow Families on-the-go four-step guide now.

Coaching Parents to Encourage Young Readers
As we all know, reading is
fundamental. Reading makes it possible for children to learn,
grow, and discover the world around them. |

Allergy and
Asthma are the most frequent causes of school and work absenteeism
...
Allergies are a common problem among
children and adults. More than 5 million children have allergy
symptoms and more than 2 million school days are missed a year due
to allergy symptoms!
Weekend Athletes' Eyes Should be Valued as the Pros
During the last baseball season my nurse called out: The
Tampa Bay Devil Rays are
sending a player over. He has an eye injury...
I realize that any injury to a professional athlete could be a
career-ending injury. Since clear vision and depth perception are
so critical to everyone, especially athletes who play at the elite
levels of the Devil Rays and basketball's NCAA Final Four, I
realize we must all work together to prevent blindness and restore
sight.

Honor-Based
Discipline
Most of us recognize that every child is unique. With three
children of our own, my wife and I can clearly substantiate that
belief. Let me explain. If I were to draw a line in the sand and
told my kids not to cross it, here's what would happen…one of them
would stay as far away from the line as possible. Another would
get as close to the line as they could -- without going over. And
the third would run full-steam ahead, crossing that line as fast
as they could. See the unique challenges? Well, even though each
child is unique, the basic principles of discipline still apply in
almost every case. |

“The
Square Peg in a Round Hole”
When your child is gifted…but
has ADHD, behavior and other learning problems. Huh?
“My child is failing all his classes, has repeated a grade,
and is very disruptive at school, but we had him tested and
his IQ is 130! What can we do?” -An actual question I
frequently encounter in my practice. The sound of a “very
smart child” having any kind of problematic issues at
school, let alone learning problems, might sound
contradictory or even bizarre. But the reality is that this
type of diagnosis is more common than many parents think.

Parenting
Empowerment: Living Safe
Hardly a day goes by that we do not read a tragic story of a child
being abused or abducted. It is an incomprehensible thought that
someone could harm a child. As a way of hoping no one could
penetrate our world of safety and security, our minds quickly take
us to the thought, “This could not happen to me.” We reconcile our
feelings to the belief that as a parent we have told our children
not to talk to strangers. However, the truth is parents can not be
with their children twenty-four hours a day and most abuse happens
not with a stranger but with someone the child knows within the
family or extended network of family friends and/or acquaintances. |
